It Doesn't Hurt to Make People Smile

Wed, Nov 3, 2010

I just received the monthly Dreamhost newsletter - the November 2010 edition, to be exact. As usually it made me smile. It starts out like this:

Hello, and welcome to the Happy November 2010 DreamHost Newsletter!

I can't even begin to tell you how happy I am that 1200 people unsubscribed from the newsletter last month.

They're gone! Splitsville! Vamoosed. Truly, I am overjoyed.

It means that I can now, finally, let you in on a little secret:

You.

Yes, you.

You are wonderful.

I've always liked you.

That's kind of weird, a bit quirky but definitely makes you smile. I love this kind of marketing. I wish more companies took themselves less seriously and said stuff like this.

Unlimited + 50 = ?

Since I've started talking about the newsletter I might as well mention that they just increased their unlimited disk space by 50 GB. That sounds like an oxymoron, but what they mean is that you can store up to 50 GB of your personal stuff on your DH hosting account. So you can use that space for personal backups etc.

It's a helpful and, it seems, an unselfish move.
